Crystal Cube Firejewel Necklace

This Necklace Will Light Up Any Outfit

There are a couple of ways a girl can get that "glow" people talk about:

1. Get pregnant. We hear this is a sure-fire way to glow. Of course, it involves several complications, some of which will be with you for the rest of your life. Possibly living in your basement.
2. Expose yourself to low levels of radiation. This one's nice because you might get a bonus super-power with it. But, once again, it leaves you with lifelong issues. Course it might not be that long if you pick the right irradiated materials.
3. Pick up one of these: the Crystal Cube Firejewel Necklace.

If number three sounds like the option for you, we'll fill you in. It's a solitaire necklace with a single AB-coated* 10 mm Swarovski crystal as its focal point. Inside that crystal is a tiny LED. The 17" neckwire which creates that hip, floating "illusion" look is also functional. It carries the current from the clasp, inside which is housed one, small, easy-to-replace, 3-volt battery. When you close the clasp, it creates a circuit and voila. You glow.

Each necklace comes in a small gift box. Choose between a white, blue, or pink LED. Battery included.

* We took this opportunity to look up finally what "AB-coated" means, and it's pretty cool so we thought you might like to know. It stands for Aurora Borealis, so named for the changing colors reflected in the result. That unique, iridized look is achieved by blasting the crystal in a vacuum chamber with a vapor of metal atoms. Neat, eh?

Product Specifications

  • White, blue, or pink LED.
  • One CR1025 3V battery for 50 hours of use. (Eject by inserting a paperclip through hole on bottom clasp.)

Circuit Board Necklace

An emerging technology piece on ZDNET turned us on to research being done at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China on new ways to recycle circuit boards. Their methodology involves mixing up a nonmetallic dough made of the main ingredients polyester and crushed up circuitboards, which doesn't sound very tasty to us even though they called it "dough." But their facts were great. For instance, did you know that "printed circuit boards (PCBs) form about 3% by weight of the total amount of electronic waste" and that "disposal in a landfill is the main method for treating nonmetallic materials of PCBs, but it may cause secondary pollution and resource wasting"?

So adorn yourself (or a friend) and save the world at the same time. Made from recycled printed circuit boards, these pendants are a little over 1.5 inches in width and come on an adjustable-length waxed cotton cord. The circuit boards used are pre-consumer waste, aka they've been printed wrong. So they've never been soldered, which means none of the lead concerns that sometimes accompany reused circuit boards. They come in a gift box for ease of gifting.

Note: Each necklace is unique, just like every snowflake. Only with more circuit board than your average snowflake. So yours won't look exactly like the one in the picture, but it'll be the same shape, style, and size.

USB Plasma Ball

Plasma balls have had their day, but today they are coming back stronger than ever due to the fact that there are USB versions available.

The cool USB Plasma Ball will give your desk the excitement you need to get through a grueling day of work or at least spark the interest of our co-workers. If you work at home without others around you can still enjoy the unique plasma ball and give your mind a break.

The way this works is that there are gases trapped inside the plastic sphere at low pressures. Another current at high voltages are pushed into the plastic sphere by way of an electrode found in the center of the sphere. The energy that is created causes the electrons to be stripped or separated from the gasses, which makes the plasma. Oh, to get geeky when the electrons are separated from the gasses it leaves “positively charged ions and spectacular gaseous and electrically conductive environment”. The high voltage now arc’s up through this plasma toward the lower voltage end of the sphere. The arcs are hotter than their environment, thus the glow. If you want to see, the arcs move around touch the sphere. Your touch is causing a lower voltage from the electrode thus the arc will quickly move to your hand.

What do you need to cause all this to happen? Well, you will need the Plasma Ball, a USB cable, and of course your computer with a USB port. The USB Plasma Ball is only about 6 inches tall so it will never be in your way but will provide you with some exciting color to your otherwise dull workday.

To buy your own USB Plasma Ball visit here.

Athens Multi-Screen Monitor

I took one look at this and started to weep. I weep because this Athens five-screen Bluetooth-enabled monitor is so beautiful, so stunning, and would be so awesome with Doom 3. The resolution is a jaw-dropping 19200 x 2400 pixels with 16.7 million colors. And the whole thing has a depth of only 2.5 inches. You could also get it in a 2 to 4 display screen configuration (dubbed Gemini, Cinerama, and Grand Canyon, respectively) if you don't have the cash for the big Athens.
No price yet but I anticipate it to be astronomical!

Thursday, May 7, 2009

Do you often have problems with perfect strangers stopping you to ask the time? Me either, but just in case, here is how to stop people asking you the time when walking down the street. They will be able to tell you as the digital display is right in front of them. You wouldn't set the time wrong to confuse them, would you? But it's fun.
As with Henry Ford, this is available in any color as long as it is black the Digital Clock T-Shirt has an electro-luminescent panel on the front that displays the current time in glowing green numbers. And if the static display doesn’t fit your style you can select up to 8 different flashing patterns or even switch it to a stopwatch mode.

The shirt is powered by 4 AAA batteries which are held in a pocket inside the shirt and will last between 12-36 hours depending on the flashing mode selected.
The shirt is hand-wash only. Get one here!

Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatments

Are you or someone you love affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis? If so, I hope you are keep up to date on the latest in treatment options.

When I was first diagnosed, I was scared and not sure where to turn. My doctor gave me some information and then I started to research. The more I learned, the less afraid I became.

I tried several popular drugs but they were not working so my doctor kept switching until we found a good match. Between that and physical therapy, I'm doing great. Just don't get discouraged if the first attempt at drug therapy doesn't work. Sometimes it takes awhile.

Rheumatoid Arthritis does still bother me a bit emotionally. I get upset when my body simply can't do some of the things that I would like it to do. I try to remember that it could be worse. But sometimes I still get frustrated.

One of the things that bothers me is when drug companies, people that are not themselves affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis try and tell me that they understand and tell me what it's like to live with it. I prefer to hear from real people like myself. Not some corporation, no matter how well meaning.

Personally, if I were writing an ad for one of these companies I would use real people who actually have this and have them talk about how the drug has helped them personally and what side effects they have personally had to deal with.

That's one of the things I like about the ads for the drug I'm currently taking, Humira. They have people who at least look and act like me. That gets my attention more than some guy in a lab coat telling me he knows how I feel. He doesn't unless he has this disease.

Educate yourselves. Talk to your doctor about the latest in treatments and whatever else you do DON'T GIVE UP!

Remote Controllable Lawmmower

Hate cutting the lawn as much as I do? I usually out wait the mrs in the house until she gets fed up with looking at it and does it herself. The Evatech GOAT Robot 22T lawnmower might solve all of your problems. That is if you can afford the $12,000 price tag to go with it. It is fun to dream though I guess for a minute.

The Goat is radio controlled from up to a half a mile in discatnce and can cut those nasty hills being able to tackle 70 degree slopes. And it reaches speeds up to 8 MPH. Wow! What a machine. You could really chase down the kids playing in your yard with this one. You can take a look at a really cool ad for it by going to the website Evatech.

Accenda Sunshine Voice Activated Talking Alarm Clock

It seems like every day that someone comes up with an alarm clock “like no other”, and we have reported on many here at Coolest Gadgets. One of the most unique that I have seen lately is the Accenda Sunshine Voice Activated Talking Alarm Clock.

The Accenda Sunshine isn’t just an alarm clock that you set before you go to bed at night, and use only when you get up in the morning. This is one that you can use all day. For example, you can record a memo for you or someone else to hear, and then set the alarm to remind you of an event. You can record up to three individual alarms for this personal touch during the day.

The clock also can audibly tell you the time. All you have to do is just say: “what time is it”, and it will tell you the time and day of the week. It also has another bonus feature that will turn on the TV when the alarm goes off.

The Accenda Sunshine Voice Activated Talking Alarm Clock runs on three C batteries, or it can just plug into the wall. You should be able to purchase this product at the Smart Home site for about $69.99.

Tesla All Electric Sedan

Tesla Motors, maker of a high-end electric sports car, says it will build an all-electric sedan in Southern California.

Thursday's announcement was made in Hawthorne, California, where Tesla unveiled the Model S sedan at a base price of $49,900, after a federal tax credit of $7,500.

That's less than half the price of its first model, the Roadster.

Started in 2003 and bankrolled by PayPal millionaire Elon Musk, Tesla has attracted investments from the Silicon Valley elite, among them Google founder Larry Page.

It is widely believed that the Model S sedan will be built near the Space Exploration Technologies Corporation facility in Hawthorne. That aerospace company, more commonly known as SpaceX, was founded by Musk in 2002.

SpaceX recently won a NASA contract to deliver cargo to the international space station when the space shuttle program is retired next year. That contract, worth $1.6 billion, was won over such industry mainstays as Boeing and Lockheed.

The promise of a high-performance, all-electric vehicle became a reality with the startup's first model, the Tesla Roadster, a car with the look, speed and price tag -- a steep $109,000 and up -- that rivals other high-end, high-performance vehicles.

Recently though, the economic downturn has forced Tesla to delay production of their would-be flagship Model S until 2011. They've also had to lay off more than 80 workers, which is about 25 percent of the company's staff.

Nonetheless, Tesla predicts it will manufacture 20,000 Model S vehicles a year. That would make it more of a mass-market vehicle than the Roadster; only 1,200 of which are produced yearly.

The company faces many challenges, the foremost of which is convincing consumers to pay almost $50,000 for an all-electric sedan when they could pay thousands less for another brand of upmarket sedan or a gas-electric hybrid.

Custom Cameras

I found a great new site: Custom Cameras. They have digital and disposable cameras for every purpose under the sun. It's a really cool site. For example, they have cameras for weddings. Wedding Cameras are designed for just the right speed and exposure to capture your special day. What is really cool is that they can be personalized. The same is true of their disposable cameras. These cameras are great to take on a hike or camping trip. Actually they are great to take anyplace that you might not want to take your expensive digital camera.
They also have my personal favorite and the reason I found their site: Underwater cameras! How incredibly cool is that?

You are probably wondering about the cost. They are not bad. $4.99 for a personalized wedding camera. The others run about the same.
A personalized camera is a great idea; one I wish that I had thought of first!
They have cameras for any and ever occasion under the sun and I highly recommend looking into this site. One warning: You could spend a great deal of time here!

Anyway, you really need to go and have a look at this site. Check out what they have. I'm sure that you will find something that you simply can't live without. I certainly did!

LG Reveal Cell Phone

I finally updated my cell phone, not because I wanted to but because my other half put mine through the washing machine. I am pretty impressed with my new LG Reveal so far. It's light, easy to learn and the buttons are just about right for texting and entering in all of my old phone numbers. The battery went down pretty quick but I think it's because I had a bubble on the front page showing useless news all day. So far the only thing I have to complain about is that I can't get weather for my city to display. It thinks I am somewhere an hour away. It picked up my bluetooth voice pretty quick as well and have had no problems to speak of.

Here are the specs:

LG Reveal (660) features:

  • Full QWERTY Keyboard

EggBeep Timer

How many of you are extremely particular about how your eggs are cooked? Well, with the BeepEgg timer, you can’t really go wrong as it not only cooks your eggs to perfection, it does so in an entertaining manner. Depending on the beeping and various melodies played, it will indicate various levels of hardness. For example, folks who want soft eggs will stop when they hear ‘Killing Me Softly’, but for those who prefer medium, ‘I Wish I Was a Hen’ would be where the bus stops. The beeping will begin once the water touches approximately 45 degrees Celsius, and you can pick one up for $19.95.

USB Rechargeable UFO Speaker

I recently purchased a little speaker set for my portable Sirius radio but it doesn't look as cool as this one. It's not going to blow you out of the water with sound but what do you want for a little speaker that you can carry along with you pretty much anywhere you go.

The on/off switch has a blue LED power indicator. It comes with a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery and it will work with any type of MP3 player as well as your computer. The top hatch opens up, either for looks or to allow the speaker to transmit sound a bit better, they don’t actually explain that part. You can purchase the speaker for $15.

    Wireless Recharging

Powermat claims that their charger beats the rest because it doesn't rely on having metal to metal contact to work. Like the others do. That means that the Powermat can be placed anywhere you want it such as desks, workstations or tables. The posibilities are endless.

It can also handle high end gadgets that demand big power like laptops, TV’s and kitchen blenders. Look for the technology in the shops towards the end of this year. You’ll be able to buy the mat and a series of adapters and sleeves to enable existing devices.

    Twilight Umbrella

I am always saying to my teenager, take your umbrella with you to school beacuse it's going to rain. Too cool for that. Well now there can be no complaining because how can you get any cooler than this. Three different colours that look fantastic. I might even consider one for the old golf bag.

They range a bit in price but they do different things. The Blue Stars Umbrella stays blue all the time and goes for about $30. The Colour Phasing Stars, changes between five different colours, shines out of the top and sell for about $34. The Inside and Out Phasing Stars flashes through five different colors and the light shines down on you as well as out of the top of the umbrella. This one costs about $45. The ATM Piggy Bank comes with a bank card and pin number that you have to use to deposit and withdraw money. Every time you make a transaction the ATM machine keeps your balance for you.

A light between your credit cards

With about the size of a normal sized credit card, this small flip up lightbulb is convenient to have in your wallet.

Whenever you need a small light to search for your keys, simply grab this cut-out lightbulb and flip it up. It'll immediately light up.

What's the point of this when we have lights in our cellphones? I guess it's just a cool thing to have.

    Dog Umbrella Leash

Every pet lover knows that taking your dog out for a walk is an absolute necessity. For those that even walk their dog in cold and rainy weather, we now have a Dog Umbrella Leash.

It makes perfect sense. You are walking with an umbrella, why wouldn't your dog enjoy walking with an umbrella?

The Dog Umbrella has an ergonomic handle which is attached to a small pet umbrella leash, which will attach to the collar of your pet.

It features a nice PVC window center so you can keep an eye on your dog. Some might say this is over the top, but then again you know what it's like to live with a wet dog...

    Available on Amazon for $20.

    Stick-on Speakers

This is a great idea, stick a speaker on any surface you like.

These SoundPads will stick to your wall, posters, bookshelves, the ground, wherever you need them to stick. Each time you switch the location/surface it will give a different sound.

It's a perfect solution to put your music where you want it.
The only disadvantage is that when it's stuck, it stays there. It would have been better if we could just stick it in the kitchen when we're cooking and then peal it off and stick it on our living room wall. Unfortunately that does not work, so maybe that's a good idea for a future enhancement.

Priced at $18 a piece it's cheap enough to buy a few, maybe 2 for each room in your house?

    Wireless outdoor speakerPost a comment

If you're anything like me you're probably spending all your summer evenings in the garden, eating barbecue with some friends.

It's always nice to have a little background music and that's what the next gadget is built for. Transmit your songs from your iPod or any other mp3 player to this wireless garden speaker. The distance between sender and receiver can reach up to 70 metres.

It is splash proof so you can put it close to a swimming pool (though not recommended for obvious reasons).

It features a left, right or mono switch which makes it perfect if you're using two of these. If you want a cool stereo effect, you can position the players perfectly in your garden.

The battery lasts about 6 hours. This gadget works with any standard 3.5mm jack connection.

    Available for $100.

    Cellphone Jammer

Tired of those idiots screaming to their cellphones? I mean, why on earth do they have to talk so loud? Want to just smash their cellphone into millions of pieces?

Now there's a better solution: the cell phone jammer. Sure it's been around for a while, but this one is really cool because it's portable and actually works.

Not much bigger than an iPhone, it will silence any cellphone for about 32 feet in all directions. It is able to block the following frequencies: GSM850, EGSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900, CDMA800, WCDMA/CDMA2000, PHS, DECT and 3G.

Even though the battery only lasts for about 1.5 hours, it's long enough to jam most annoying conversations.

Priced at $246 it is rather expensive.

    Cigarette Lighter CameraPost a comment

This reminds me of James Bond. Take this cool little cigarette lighter camera with you wherever you go or on your next mission to capture important evidence.

Disguised as a lighter (which does not work ofcourse so don't try to light a fire with it), it features 64MB SDRAM storing up to 104 images (640x480) or 30 images (1280x960). These images can be downloaded to your computer with USB.

So basically it's a decent digital camera inside a fake cigarette lighter. If anyone needs this spy camera, get it for $195 over at SpyGadgets.

    Bionic Contacts

The University of Washington's Babak Parviz has created a prototype "bionic" contact lens that creates a display over the wearer's visual field, so images, maps, data, etc., appear to float in midair. The lens works using tiny LEDs, which are powered by solar cells, and a radio-frequency receiver.

    The Peraves MonoTracer

You really need the mind of a Swiss engineer to come up with a vehicle that combines the lithe maneuverability of a motorcycle with the not-getting-rained-on-ability of a conventional automobile. In addition to looking as though it just fell out of a time machine from a distant and much cooler future, the MonoTracer furnishes its driver (and one passenger) with such luxuries as air-conditioning and windshield wipers, plus the safety of a cockpit made from Kevlar and carbon fiber and reinforced with an aluminum roll cage. The MonoTracer is also energy-efficient: its BMW engine, which goes from zero to 62 m.p.h. in 4.8 sec. (100 km/h), gets about 65 m.p.g. (28 km/L).

    Spore!

It's blasphemy, brilliance or both to take the entire evolution of a species — from a single-celled animalcule in a drop of water to a space-faring, galaxy-exploring sentient being — and turn it into a video game. But that's exactly what Will Wright has done. Wright is the man who created The Sims, a game about everyday life in suburbia, but apparently he found the vast panorama of human experience too confining, because he then spent seven years creating Spore, in which players design their own life-form and then manage every aspect of its progress through the centuries, from savagery to civilization.

    More Information: Spore
